I think this is especially important if you’re in direct sales/network marketing because you are it! Unless you’re highly motivated to set goals and work daily to achieve your goals, having a mentor, someone you respect, trust and like, can only be a huge benefit to your business. It’s like having a fitness coach or a running partner. I know I run longer whenever I’m running with a friend of mine. Sometimes, it’s just that competiveness of not wanting to stop before my running partner. Although I don’t have a paid coach but I make sure to surround myself with mentors in my direct sales business especially on the days that I need that extra motivation. Great article!

I’m a big believer that mentors are the short-cuts.

@Amy–Thanks for mentioning, that’s a great one. It’s so beneficial to have someone look at us from outside because so often we are just too “close” to it all.

@Shawn–Agreed! Energy is definitely one of the things I got out of my retreat. I truly feel energized about going forward with all of the new plans for my business.

@Kim–Fear can be so insidious. It’s so valuable to have someone who can see you through that. I am sure you provide tremendous value to your clients by doing that!

Thinking bigger is definitely something I see myself helping my clients with. Deep down they know what they want to do, but their fear is holding them back from making a decision. Oftentimes, you just need a boost from others to realize that you knew all along what you needed to do. They can give you the courage to take that step.

Great points – I was just having this conversation with someone yesterday. On top of the great points that you (and Amy) I think this kind of relationship also generates energy and gives you access to a different set of connections and resources that you won’t have on your own.

For me, another point that fits in nicely here is their ability to see and think outside the box. They don’t have preconceived ideas about our passions, but pull it out of us and help position our skills in the market place.
